Bank of Japan (BOJ) board member Kazuyuki Masu said on 10 September that further policy rate increases remained necessary, Reuters reported. Speaking ahead of the September policy meeting, he warned that accelerating inflation could force the central bank to raise rates more rapidly.
Masu also said recent data did not indicate a large, rapid overshoot of the inflation target. He gave no explicit timetable or pace for future increases, stressing the need for careful assessment at each meeting.
For overseas buyers following Japanese property, the next policy decision and movements in the yen remain worth watching. As of 10 September, a September rate increase was still a market expectation, rather than an announced decision.
