Hong Kong launches Seamless e-Channel for frequent HZMB travelers
Hong Kong has launched a new Seamless e-Channel at the departure hall of the Hong Kong Port of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, giving eligible frequent travelers another way to complete departure clearance.
The service was announced on 11 June 2026 and began operating on 25 June. It uses facial recognition and other identity-verification technology, but it is not open to every traveler using the bridge.
Who can use the new channel
According to the Hong Kong Government, users must meet all of the following conditions:
- be a Hong Kong permanent resident aged 11 or above;
- hold a valid Hong Kong smart identity card; and
- have recorded at least 10 crossings through the HZMB Hong Kong Port during the preceding 90 days.
Eligible travelers must still carry their Hong Kong identity card. The official announcement describes the service as operating in the departure hall, so travelers should not assume that the same arrangement is available for arrival clearance.
What the launch means for frequent bridge users
The channel is designed for residents who already use the bridge regularly, including cross-border families and business travelers moving between Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao. Its immediate benefit is a more streamlined departure-clearance option for a narrowly defined group of frequent users.
The launch should not be interpreted as a general removal of document checks or as permission to travel without an identity card. Travelers who do not meet the age, document or crossing-frequency requirements should continue to use the other available clearance channels.
Because operating arrangements and eligibility rules can change, travelers should check the latest official information before departure.
