Vietnam–Singapore QR payments go live for Singapore users visiting Vietnam
Vietnam and Singapore launched a new cross-border QR payment service in Hanoi on 2 July 2026, giving users of participating Singapore payment apps a new way to pay at supported merchants in Vietnam.
The service connects Singapore-side payment applications through Liquid Group with Vietnam’s VietQRGlobal acceptance network, operated by the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS). VietinBank is the settlement bank for the corridor.
What users can do now
Singapore visitors whose payment app participates in the service can scan VietQRGlobal codes at supported locations in Vietnam. NAPAS lists retail stores, restaurants, hotels and shopping destinations among the types of merchants covered.
The official launch notice says transactions are processed in real time with direct conversion between Singapore dollars and Vietnamese dong. The initial phase is expected to reach about five million users through Liquid Group’s partner network. That is an expected reach figure, not a confirmed count of active users.
The important limitation
At launch, the live service is one-way: it enables users of participating Singapore apps to pay merchants in Vietnam. The official notice says outbound QR payments from Vietnam to Singapore are planned for a later phase in 2026, but they are not yet confirmed as live.
NAPAS has not published a complete list of participating Singapore apps in the launch notice. Travellers should therefore check with their payment provider before relying on the service and review the displayed exchange amount before confirming a payment.
The launch is a practical addition to Vietnam’s regional payment links, especially for travellers who prefer to pay through a familiar mobile app rather than carry cash or arrange currency exchange for everyday spending.
