Western Union has selected stablecoin infrastructure firm Noah to power Receiver Redirect, a new service that will deliver money transfers to recipients as USDPT, Western Union’s own US-dollar stablecoin, Noah said in a press release this week. The service is designed to support stablecoin transfers in more than 60 currencies across more than 200 countries and territories.
USDPT is issued by Anchorage Digital Bank on the Solana blockchain; Western Union first launched it in May 2026 after bringing on infrastructure partner Crossmint in March. Under Receiver Redirect, senders will still use Western Union’s network of more than 500,000 agent locations to send money, but recipients in eligible markets will be able to collect the transfer as USDPT in a Western Union wallet and hold it indefinitely through the company’s Stablecard, announced in August 2026. Noah will provide the treasury and licensing infrastructure needed to pre-fund, convert and disburse the stablecoin to recipients. “This new capability is a global first, taking a Western Union money transfer and delivering it directly into the customer’s Stablecard wallet in USDPT stablecoin,” said Malcolm Clarke, Western Union’s global head of digital assets. Noah founder and CEO Shah Ramezani said the deal reflects “a watershed moment” for stablecoins replacing slower, costlier bank transfers. Western Union and Noah have not yet named a launch date or the first eligible markets; Noah’s release describes the underlying platform as supporting Western Union’s more than 150 million customers globally.
For anyone who regularly sends or receives remittances, the detail worth tracking is not the stablecoin technology itself but the two numbers it is aimed at — speed and cost. If a recipient can hold value in USDPT instead of converting immediately to local currency, and if that removes a currency-conversion step Western Union currently charges for, the real test will be what it does to the total cost of sending money home once specific corridors and launch markets are named.
