From 28 August 2026, HM Land Registry will publish Unique Property Reference Numbers (UPRNs) and INSPIRE IDs in separate lookup tables alongside its monthly Price Paid Data dataset, the agency announced. Price Paid Data covers residential property sales in England and Wales and is widely used by property professionals, researchers, lenders and digital service providers who need reliable market information. The change responds to customer demand for these identifiers to be included, and is intended to make it easier to link sale-price records with other property and location datasets, supporting more accurate matching, mapping and analysis.
“We have a strategic plan to unlock the value of our data to create new opportunities for innovation and growth,” said Lynne Nicholson, Deputy Director for Data at HM Land Registry. “To support this, and in response to customer demand, we are providing UPRNs and INSPIRE IDs through a series of lookup tables, beginning with our Price Paid dataset. Later this financial year, we will be adding similar lookup tables to our UK Companies data and Overseas Companies data, as part of our move to support a more efficient, transparent, and digitally connected property market.” Nick Chapallaz, Managing Director at GeoPlace, which manages the UPRN allocation system, said the identifier “provides certainty of reference across the property sector, ensuring that different organisations are working with the same property, regardless of how its address appears in their systems.”
For overseas and offshore property owners in England and Wales, Nicholson’s confirmation that lookup tables are coming for Overseas Companies data specifically is worth flagging: it points toward the same kind of standardised, linkable identifiers currently being rolled out for sale-price records eventually being extended to the register of foreign-company property ownership, though HM Land Registry has not yet given a specific date for that later rollout.
