This article is part of Chara Hung’s Cambodia property column.

Whatever passport you hold, if you are traveling to Phnom Penh, Cambodia for tourism or business, the first thing you need to sort out is your visa. Foreign visitors must show a valid tourist or business visa on arrival in Cambodia.

Online E-Visa

You can apply for a Cambodian e-visa online by filling in a form with your personal details (your name, date of birth, place of birth, gender, nationality, and passport number, which must match your passport exactly), providing an email address to receive your approved e-visa, and paying by credit card.

Fee, Validity, and Length of Stay

  • Single-entry fee: US$30 + US$6 (processing fee)
  • Validity: 3 months from the date of issue
  • Permitted stay: 30 days

Documents to Prepare Before Applying

  1. A digital passport-style photo (JPEG or PNG) with a plain white or off-white background, under 1MB, with the filename changed to English characters before uploading.
  2. Your address while staying in Cambodia.
  3. Port of entry: you must specify which port you will use to enter Cambodia.
  4. A passport valid for 6 months or more, with at least one blank page.
  5. An uploaded digital copy of your passport photo page.
  6. Payment by credit card.

Note: apply online about a week before you travel. Processing usually takes 1 to 3 working days. Once you receive your approved visa by email, print the e-visa and carry it with you while traveling in Cambodia.

Cambodia’s only official e-visa application website is evisa.gov.kh (a .gov.kh domain); third-party sites such as cambodia-evisatravel.com are not official and may charge extra fees.

Applying in Person at the Cambodian Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau

  1. Passport (bring both original and copy), valid for at least 6 months, with at least one blank page
  2. One passport copy
  3. One color photo (passport size or 35mm x 45mm), full-face
  4. Application form, submitted in person or through a representative
  5. Single-entry fee: US$30

Address and office hours of the Cambodian Consulate General in Hong Kong and Macau:

Address: Room 1218, 12/F, Star House, 3 Salisbury Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong
Phone: (852) 2546 0718
Fax: (852) 2803 0570
Email: [email protected]
Office hours: Monday to Friday, 9am–1pm and 2pm–5pm (closed Saturdays, Sundays, and Hong Kong public holidays)

Visa on Arrival and Business Visa on Arrival

On the flight, cabin crew hand out the basic entry forms for you to fill in; you submit them at the counter on arrival.

Documents needed for a tourist visa: visa application form, arrival card, customs declaration form, two 2-inch photos on a white background, and a tourist visa fee of US$30.

Documents needed for a business visa: a business (E-class) visa is obtained on arrival for an initial fee of US$35 (reduced from US$42 on 1 January 2025), and is mainly for people who will be working in Cambodia for an extended period. Required documents: proof of employment and a valid entry visa. To stay longer, extensions are filed at the General Department of Immigration in Phnom Penh at tiered fees of US$45 (1 month), US$75 (3 months), US$155 (6 months) or US$285 (12 months).

The first business visa costs US$35; after that, you extend your visa (a “visa extension”) once you are inside the country, and the fee varies depending on how long an extension you need. You cannot enter on a tourist visa and then convert it into a business visa.

Things to note:

  1. Getting a visa on arrival in Cambodia may involve long queues and paying a small tip.
  2. Visitors can apply for a visa extension at the Immigration Department of the National Police under Cambodia’s Ministry of Interior, which allows an additional 30 days of stay.

Travelers who need to extend their stay in Cambodia must submit a visa extension application at Cambodia’s immigration headquarters in Phnom Penh.

  • When to apply: within two weeks before your e-visa or visa-on-arrival expires
  • Processing time: about 3 to 7 business days
  • Extension fees (tiered by length): US$45 (1 month), US$75 (3 months), US$155 (6 months), US$285 (12 months)
  1. On arrival in Cambodia, your passport must be valid for 6 months or more, with at least one blank page.
  2. You must carry a copy of your e-visa with you at all times while staying in Cambodia.

Cambodia applies no special COVID-related restrictions on entry; e-visa, visa-on-arrival, and visa-free entry (where applicable) operate normally.

Wondering whether Cambodia feels “underdeveloped”? We’ll share more about everyday life there next time.
