DTV Visa Story 4: A Shopee Shop Owner's Choice
September 23, 2026

As more and more people choose to apply for the Thailand Digital Nomad Visa (DTV, Thailand Destination Visa), we want to share some real stories. These stories are not only about the Thailand DTV visa itself, but about why people choose to change the pace of their lives at different stages and under different circumstances. This installment shares the story of a international e-commerce shop owner.

The Story

Shan (a pseudonym), 41, is a Shopee shop owner who runs three different stores selling a variety of brands and products at the same time. Her work depends entirely on a computer and a phone — she manages staff, contacts suppliers and arranges restocking through online meetings and calls to keep her stores running.

A few years ago, Shan bought a holiday home in Bangkok. Every year she would spend a few months living in Thailand, treating it as a place to relax and recharge. As her life circumstances changed (she became single again), she wanted more flexibility to make Thailand a genuine second base for living.

In the past, she could only rely on a tourist visa, which limited each stay and forced her to travel back and forth irregularly, so her life plans could never really settle. Now, the DTV visa has opened up a new possibility: one stay of 180 days, a visa valid for five years, and multiple entries. For her, this means she can enjoy life in Bangkok for longer stretches while also running her international e-commerce business securely.

ZDelp Case Analysis: Why Was the Thailand Destination Visa (DTV) Right for Shan?

When Shan (a pseudonym) came to us, her needs were clear: she wanted to build a longer-term, more stable base for living in Thailand while continuing to run her international e-commerce business.

We first looked at several common visa options:

  • Tourist Visa (TR): Simple to apply for, but the short stay period could not meet her need to live and run a business in Thailand for extended periods each year.
  • Non-B Work Visa: Requires employment by a Thai company and a work permit, which does not suit her self-employed e-commerce model.
  • Education Visa (ED): Requires full-time enrollment in a course, which could not support her e-commerce work and global lifestyle.
  • Long-Term Resident Visa (LTR): The financial threshold and professional-background requirements are too high, and the application process is too long for her current plans.

After comparing the options, we confirmed that the Thailand Destination Visa (DTV) was the best fit for her:

1. An E-Commerce Work Style That Is Location-Independent

Her e-commerce business can be run entirely from a computer and a phone, with no need for local employment in Thailand. As long as she has an internet connection, she can keep managing her stores, coordinating her supply chain and growing her market.

2. The Ideal Choice for a Long-Term Base

Shan had already bought a holiday home in Bangkok and wanted to make Thailand a “second home.” DTV’s 5-year validity, 180-day stay per entry and multiple entries let her arrange her time in Thailand each year flexibly, truly achieving a “dual-base lifestyle.”

3. Less Uncertainty at the Border

In the past, relying on a tourist visa meant frequent border crossings that repeatedly interrupted her life. DTV solves this pain point, letting her enjoy a settled daily life in Thailand while continuing to run her international business.

What We Did

ZDelp first took a deep look at Shan’s life plans, e-commerce business structure and financial situation, then designed an application plan that met the DTV standards for her, using a stable income record and property documents as the core evidence. She was ultimately approved for the DTV visa, solving her long-term residence needs and letting her move freely between her home country and Thailand to begin her own “e-commerce plus dual-base living.”
