The Benefits of Living in Germany

Reading Time: 4 mins read

Many investors want to settle in Germany, but often do not fully understand what living there is actually like. So what are the benefits of living in Germany? Germany is seen as a stable and secure country in Europe. First impressions of the country can be that it is dull, but in fact Germany is reliable in many respects. This article shares some of the benefits of living in Germany.

Strong Rule of Law and Comprehensive Welfare

Germany has a parliamentary democracy and a free-market economy, giving every investor a secure backdrop for investment. The law and an independent judiciary help every investor protect their own rights, and a credible, robust and clear land mortgage registration system can prove an owner’s ownership of an investment project. Germany is regarded as one of Europe’s leading countries. A strong economy is only part of the reason, though not the only one — Germany has many small and medium-sized businesses that employ a great many people. German average wages are among the highest in the world, and its social welfare is unique globally. All employees have health insurance, ensuring they receive quality medical care in hospital.

High Standard of Healthcare and a Strong Pension System

One example is that Germany’s mortality rate during the coronavirus pandemic was lower than in many other countries. Germany also has strong pension insurance and unemployment insurance, which help people continue paying down debt while they look for a new job. This matters a great deal for investors too — most Germans are tenants, and paying rent on time matters a great deal to them.

Comprehensive, Affordable Education

The education system is not only high-quality but also low-cost. All German public schools and universities are free. Compared with other European countries, Germany has an outstanding system, and German universities rank among the best in the world.

A Settled, Stable Environment

As mentioned earlier, German property is a tenant’s market. Germans like renting apartments and houses on open-ended leases. As a result, finding new tenants for a property is easy, but most Germans also stay in the same home for a long time — a clear advantage for property investors.

Beautiful Natural Environment

Germany has 16 different regions, each with beautiful spots and excellent cities. Anyone can choose the region they like best to invest in. The north sits along the coastline, the center is green with rivers, and the south is mountainous — each region has its own appeal and advantages. Naturally, better investment projects are generally found in cities, but the countryside is also very appealing. Sixty percent of Germans living outside cities do not want to miss out on this greener way of life.

Strong Emphasis on the Environment and Practicality

Environmental protection is an important theme in Germany. Tap water is treated as drinking water. Waste separation is taken for granted, and clean air and avoiding plastic are also common themes. More and more people cycle, and air pollution has improved every year. Germans are very practical — everything is designed to function well rather than to look elegant, but it still ends up solid, durable and high quality. German technical standards are also very high — you can rest assured that every certificate is accurate and has been thoroughly tested.

Strong Focus on Family and Neighborly Relations

When meeting new people for the first time, Germans tend to be quite reserved. It takes some time to earn their trust, but once they trust you, you can become good friends and they are very willing to help. Unlike some other European countries, Germans spend a lot of time at home, though they also enjoy village parties or spending time in the garden in summer. Neighbors are mostly friendly. Germany holds all kinds of events throughout the year for you to take part in, and every region has a rich cultural scene. The country’s history is fascinating, and every region has no shortage of museums, theaters and concert halls. Some cities are known for their music, clubs and cultural districts.

Four Distinct Seasons

Germany has four distinct seasons. Winter temperatures drop below 0°C, with snow. Spring brings flowers into bloom. Summer has plenty of sunshine and long daylight hours. Autumn brings falling leaves and lovely scenery — which can be a striking contrast for anyone moving from a climate without four distinct seasons. Life in Germany moves at a slower pace. Everything follows a set order and is well organized. Germans are, for the most part, precise, careful and self-disciplined, while still welcoming new things and new faces. Go and explore this country and its people!
