How to Apply for the Wealthy Global Citizen LTR Visa

How to Apply for the Wealthy Global Citizen LTR Visa
September 23, 2026
in Living Abroad, Thailand, Visa & Immigration
Reading Time: 4 mins read
Tags: Thailand LTR visa

Wealthy Global Citizens is one of the four categories of Thailand’s LTR visa (administered by BOI, a 10-year renewable multiple-entry visa) that follows the asset-based track: the official page’s listed conditions for this category include no age requirement and no annual income requirement (per the current page’s wording) — the core figures are global assets and Thailand investment, plus the common financial security requirement. This article breaks down the category conditions item by item, then lays out the four-step application process and fees.

Category Conditions: Three Requirements in Parallel

1. Global assets: at least USD 1,000,000. The composition, valuation and proof of assets follow BOI’s current requirements and case-by-case review.
2. Thailand investment: at least USD 500,000, with the official page listing three qualifying forms — Thai government bonds (with a term of 5 years or more), Thai company equity, or real estate. Note the “5-year or longer term” qualifier attached to the bonds — check it against the official wording.
3. Common financial security (choose one of three): medical insurance of at least USD 50,000; or Thai Social Security; or a bank deposit of at least USD 100,000 maintained for at least 12 months.

Two boundaries worth noting: the current official page does not list an annual income requirement for this category — this is the current page’s wording, and is subject to the announcement in effect at the time of application; and the conditions across the four LTR categories are independent and cannot be mixed — WGC’s USD 500,000 investment list should be read on its own terms, separately from other categories’ investment requirements.

How to Apply: The Official Four-Step Process

1. Online submission: register through the LTR online system and submit your application and documents;
2. Eligibility review: the review result is notified within 20 working days — note this is the timeline for “notifying the review result”; if further documents are requested, the time can be extended, and this is not the same as the total time to obtain the visa;
3. Pre-approval and visa collection: pre-approval takes 1–3 working days; after receiving the endorsement letter, you must book your visa collection within 60 days of its issue date — through a Thai embassy or consulate abroad, E-visa, or the One Stop Service Center in Bangkok;
4. Work permit (if applicable): approval takes 3–5 working days.

Fees

The processing fee for the 10-year multiple-entry visa issued in Thailand is THB 50,000 per person; fees for issuance abroad (at an embassy or consulate) differ and can be significantly higher (per the issuing channel’s published rates); if applying for a work permit, the maintenance fee is THB 3,000 per year.

A Few Misunderstandings

Misunderstanding One: “USD 1 million in assets is enough.”

Three requirements apply in parallel: global assets of at least USD 1,000,000 + Thailand investment of at least USD 500,000 + choose-one-of-three common financial security.

Misunderstanding Two: “Any kind of investment counts toward the USD 500,000.”

The official page lists three qualifying forms: Thai government bonds (5-year or longer term), Thai company equity, or real estate — check against the list and the term qualifier within it.

Misunderstanding Three: “This category also has an annual income threshold.”

The current official page does not list an annual income requirement for this category — this is the current page’s wording; the documents required at application follow the official announcements and document list in effect at the time of application.

Misunderstanding Four: “You get the visa after 20 working days.”

20 working days is the timeline for notifying the eligibility review result (extendable if documents are requested); after that there are still the pre-approval, endorsement letter, and 60-day visa-collection booking steps.

FAQ

Q1: What are the thresholds for Wealthy Global Citizens?

Global assets of at least USD 1,000,000 + Thailand investment of at least USD 500,000 (government bonds with a 5-year or longer term, company equity, or real estate) + choose-one-of-three common financial security.

Q2: Is there an age limit?

The official page’s listed conditions for this category are assets, investment and financial security, with no age requirement among them (compare: Wealthy Pensioners explicitly lists an age-50 threshold) — the four categories’ conditions are independent, and the current announcement governs.

Q3: How long does the application take?

Official process: eligibility review result within 20 working days (extendable if documents are requested) → pre-approval 1–3 working days → book visa collection within 60 days of the endorsement letter → work permit (if applicable) 3–5 working days.

Q4: How much does it cost?

THB 50,000 per person for a visa issued in Thailand (10 years); fees for issuance abroad differ and can be significantly higher, per the issuing channel’s published rates.
